Our impact

Since its establishment, the principal strategic aim of Groundwork Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Tameside & Trafford has been to work within and complement the regeneration agendas of our three local authority partners. We develop and deliver, in partnership with other agencies, sustainable programmes of environmental activity in designated areas of need.

Attracting Resources

We aim to operate at an appropriate level to attract substantial resources and target these on a range of activities appropriate to all parties. Resources secured include:

  • Over £2M from the European Regional Development Fund
  • A 5 year £2.4 million lottery funded ‘Changing Places’ programme
  • Over £1.5 million per year through Local Authority and Government regeneration initiatives
  • Approximately £1 million per year for Intermediate Labour Market activity
  • Over £500,000 support from the private sector in the last two years

Providing Opportunities

We have targeted this funding to provide greater opportunities for people to improve their quality of life through participation in regeneration activity. To this end we are:

  • Working with communities in 22 wards that have been ranked in the top 10% of wards in England suffering multiple deprivation
  • Developing and delivering programmes which allow people to tackle issues such as employment, health, education and crime in the context of environment renewal
  • Engaging local people in planning and implementation through a structured Community Planning process
  • Providing employment and training opportunities for over 700 local people.
  • Providing environmental services to over 200 businesses per year.
  • Working with more than 50 community resident and youth groups generating over 5000 days of activity per year
